Visas and Work Permits

Visas and Work PermitsUnless you are a resident or citizen of the country you are moving to, you may require a visa or work permit. If you are going on a work contract, check with the company you will be working for to see if they will be arranging the necessary work permit on your behalf. You need a passport with more than six months of validity remaining and a picture to apply for a visa. Visit the embassy of the country you are moving to with qualification for your stay and photocopies of both front and back of your ID card. You should also contact the country’s embassy for details on their visa requirements as required documents and issue period may vary according to the purpose of your stay. To find a list of embassies and their contact details, you can visit Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. (http://www.mofat.go.kr) Make sure you allow sufficient time to process all the necessary travel documents and check that you passport has a validity of more than six months.

Driving Overseas

Driving OverseasIf you plan to drive in a foreign country, you will require the International Driver’s License and your own native driver’s license. Holders of Korean driving license can apply for International Driver’s License at driving license test station. International Driver’s License means the license for you to drive in associated countries and is valid for a year from the date you enter the countries. Extension and reissue of International Driver’s License are prohibited by international law. Therefore you are required to obtain the country’s driving license for longer stays.
